FULCHER SNAPS WINLESS STREAK AT SENOIA RACEWAY
(Senoia, GA – August 27, 2013) Shane Fulcher led flag to flag on Saturday night at Senoia Raceway notching the victory in the Jodeco Auto Sales Late Models. The Thomaston veteran snapped his winless streak that had mushroomed to one year, four months and seventeen days. His last win at the tough 3/8ths mile came on April 7, 2012.
Mike Ray, the Riverdale Rocket’ also busted out of a dry spell winning the Bomber feature race. Ray had not won a main event since the middle of June 2011. Hampton’s Paul ‘Cowboy’ Holloway picked up the checkers in the Newnan Bonding B Cadets while Austin Horton “The Grantville Grenade” won in the Summit Racing Equipment Hobby Stocks. Newnan’s Bobby ‘Wild Child’ Arnold bested the Mini Stocks and Villa Rica’s Todd Brewster topped the Modified Mini. It was each driver’s seventh win for 2013.
Fulcher shot out the lead from his outside pole position to steal away the lead from fast qualifier ‘Flyin’ Brian Reese of Sharpsburg. Reese tried to get a run on Fulcher for nearly the entire race, but could not muster the speed off the corners. LaGrange’s Tod Darda charged through the field to finish in third ahead of Fayetteville’s Glenn Morris and LaGrange’s Dennis Hale.
Paul Holloway also led all twenty laps of the main event for the Newnan Bonding B Cadets. Holloway took advantage of Roopville’s Clifton ‘Hog Head’ Moran slipping on the race’s initial start. Holloway pulled away as Moran faded allowing Stockbridge’s Jeff Carter and Greenville’s Thomas Mewborn to scoot past.
The racing was fierce throughout the field as the fan favorite B Cadets put on a show. Mewborn looked to the highside which opened a door for points leader Roger Arnett (Alabama) and Moran to move up spots. Mewborn would then fight back to steal away a position from Arnett. The three drivers swapped their spots on the leader board three more times before the final crazy lap of the race.
As Holloway took the white flag, second place driver Jeff Carter blew an engine creating a scramble to avoid collecting him or spinning in his streak of water and oil. Arnett slipped under both Mewborn and Moran leaving the duo to decide the show position in a drag race from turn four to the finish line. Moran beat Mewborn to the line by only a foot.
The win was Holloway’s second on the season. Arnett finished second and solidified his position as points leader. Moran, Mewborn and Parrish Duncan rounded out the top five.
Earlier in the evening, Lake Spivey’s Dow Kirkland slammed the outside back stretch wall and rolled his car. The crash ended Kirkland’s night and makes his title chances slim with only five races remaining in the 2013 points season. Fayetteville’s Jason Miller also made a move in the chase for the B Cadet rookie of the year title finishing in sixth place.
Austin Horton took advantage of an early race crash involving Mike Jenkins and a late race mechanical issue for Gary Brand to claim his second win of the year in the Summit Racing Equipment Hobby Stocks. The class may open up a bit with the dominating Clifton Moran moving to the B Cadet class. Moran had won an unprecedented fifty-two features in the popular Hobby Stock division during the past two and half seasons.
Bobby Arnold held off a hard charging Brandon Libri to win the Mini Stock race. Gary Parker was the race’s hard charger coming from outside row four to finish third. Rookie Alex Rudolph was fourth followed by Marc Leath. The Mini Stocks have three rookies chasing the first year laurels. Libri and Brandon Brock are fifteen year old competitors.
“The Mini Stocks have a growing number of talented racers,” said promoter Tim Moses. “There are several young guys that have flexed their muscle against the veterans of the class. The final month of the season is going to be wide open.”
Mike Ray and Todd Brewster topped their respective fields with dominating efforts.
