(Senoia, GA – October 29, 2017)  Weather dampened the spirits of race fans, racers and track officials at the 2nd Annual Showdown at Senoia.  The Friday night portion of the weekend racing showcase was dominated by Michael Page as the Winston hot shoe picked up victories in the Super Late Models and Crate Late Models.  But Saturday night’s $10,000 to win finale was lost to a cold front that dumped an inch of rain on the property just after heat races began to firm up the starting positions for many of the Showdown features.

“We kept a close eye on the forecast and trends in the weather,” said promoter Mayes Massey.  “It looked like there was not much rain in the system, but that changed early Saturday afternoon and then it dumped on us.  If the rain would have stayed a little more west of the track, we would have been able to get all the program in on Saturday night.”

The weather forced officials to cancel the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series event and postpone the remaining class features to Saturday, December 2nd.  The Senoia Raceway Holidazzle event will take place on Saturday, December 2nd and include the Showdown make-up races for the Limited Late Models, Late Model Sportsman, Hobby Stock, Mini Stock and Bombers.  The Crate Late Models and Bombers will also be on the racing schedule for December 2nd.

Showdown at Senoia Saturday night grandstand tickets will be honored at any of the following events:  Saturday, December 2nd ‘Holidazzle’; March 30th or March 31st ‘Spring Nationals’.  Pit passes and Trackside Parking passes can be used at any of those events as well.

“It’s not the best situation to be in,” said Massey.  “But, all the tickets and pit passes for the rained out portion of the Showdown will be honored and those effected have a few dates to choose from to try and work in their schedule.”

Michael Page led every lap of both the Super Late Model Shoot-Out and the Crate Late Model feature at the Friday night event.  He was challenged in the Super Late Model main by Zebulon’s Shance Clanton as the two fought through lapped traffic.  Page worked the traffic to near perfection as he collected the winner’s paycheck with Clanton ending up in second and Dawsonville’s Donald McIntosh third.

It was near the same story in the Crate Late Model feature.  He jumped to the lead as his challengers had issues including brother Mark Page who slammed the wall while running among the top five.  Chattanooga’s Ronnie Johnson also had problems which eventually forced him to the pits and then the back of the field for a mid-race restart.

In the end, Page nailed down his second win of the night ahead of 2016 Crate Late Model Showdown victor Riley Hickman of Alabama.  Rome’s Jake Knowles was third ahead of Tennessee’s Michael Courtney and Matt Black of Douglasville.

Courtney was one of many drivers competing in multiple divisions at the Showdown.  He also piloted his four-cylinder Mini Stock in their warm-up Friday night feature.  The Tennessee wheelman moved in front of Senoia Raceway points champion Mark ‘Mad Dog’ Newton of Hampton before pulling out to a strong lead.  The pack never was too far away as the event was slowed by several cautions.

Carnesville’s Shannon Etheridge would close the gap over the final few circuits, but could not muster enough to pass Courtney allowing him to claim the laurels.  Etheridge was second ahead of Auburn’s JJ Garrett, Jefferson’s Justin Taylor and Alabama’s Bo Minor.

Dorough Bright topped off a fantastic season with a Bomber Showdown feature victory.  The Newnan driver held off all challenges to cap a season that included a points championship along with half a dozen feature wins.  Alabama’s Dunie Dillard started scratch on the field before climbing to second ahead of Whitesburg’s Blant Duke, Newnan’s Scott Amoson and Chris Arnett from Lannett, Alabama.

The track will now remain quiet until the event scheduled for December 2nd.  The day’s schedule will be released soon and be available on the track website at
